Round 1: beat Sidney Sussex by 7s in a time of 9:20. Quarter-finals: lost to Hughes Hall by 8s in a time of 9:08.
After illness resulted in some last-minute subbing in, the W1 uni IVs crew rowed together for the first time whilst rowing up to the start line on day 1 of racing. With little info on our opponent crew, we decided to send it off the start and made gains on Sidney Sussex right from the beginning of the race. Despite the strong stream against us, we were spurred on by some familiar faces from the men’s side who came to cheer us on from the bank, putting the power down and resetting well round corners. We managed to hold our gain on Sidney along the reach, ultimately winning by 7 seconds. Feeling inspired by our first day win, we had a good row to the start line on day 2, where we faced Hugh’s Hall. We had a really good race, building on things from the day before, in particular managing to increase the rate and drop the split along the reach. Although we lost to a strong Hugh’s Hall crew, we were very happy to beat our time from the first day by 12 seconds!
